5 tips on surviving the 2021 peak shipping season.

Conquer logistics challenges and survive the 2021 peak shipping season with 5 tips from Vancouver’s leader in trucking and warehousing!

We’re all in the thick of this year’s peak shipping season and there’s still a few months of hustling to go in order to ride the waves of holiday sales this season. The logistics challenges that businesses can encounter during this time of the year are unprecedented and can be overwhelming, with little breathing room to correct errors. We’ve got some tips to help you survive peak shipping season and finish this year strong.

Understanding the freight shipping calendar, staying on top of the latest news developments regarding importing and shipping, and having the right industry professionals working for you are the crucial first steps in having a solid shipment plan working for you anytime throughout the year.

We’ve got 5 tips to help you get in front of your shipping challenges now.

1. Plan, Prioritize, and Move Quickly

You’ve got a solid inventory plan in place since the beginning of the peak shipping season and now you have to continue to move quickly. There may be a few inventory shortages in between, but you’ve got to pick your battles and prioritize which products are in the highest demand. Second guessing and making changes last minute will cost you more than just a few bucks during this unprecedented time.

2. Ship late

If your items are non-perishable and are not needed before the holiday season, consider shipping them later in the beginning of next year when there is typically more unused freight shipping capacity and deal opportunities.

3. Allow for extra shipping time

It’s a time crunch for everyone and you should allow for extra shipping time if you must ship during peak season. Carriers often overbook during this season and you should expect to pay a premium for freight during this time.

4. Look for Deals

Shipping early would have definitely allowed you more time to search for deals. However, there are still deals to be had if your cargo is not that time sensitive. You may be able to snag deals without sacrificing too much in delivery times. LTL carriers may provide price breaks to customers who are flexible and allow them time to arrange their loads and schedules during these two months.

5. Stagger Shipments

Does your shipment really need to arrive all at once? If the answer is no, then it would make sense to ship a small portion of your cargo faster and let the bulk of it arrive later via slower and cheaper delivery channels.
